Our Junior Badminton Program

The Birdie Boppers Badminton program provides children ages 5 - 18 with the opportunity to learn or enhance their skills in this dynamic and strategic sport.

Participants will develop techniques for serves, forehands, and overhead shots, alongside strategies tailored for both singles and doubles matches.

Players are welcome to bring their own racquets however racquets are available for all athletes.

Instructors will focus on the basic techniques of underhand, forehand, and backhand, including serves, overhead clear and drop shots, net shots, and basic instruction in footwork. Beginner Badminton also focuses on developing balance and coordination appropriate for each individual’s age and skill level. Participants are introduced to the rules of game play along with the scoring format.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Dropping off your child

Please make sure to arrive with enough time before class starts to help your child change into their indoor running shoes and store personal items such as coats and jackets in the designated area. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items and we ask that parents keep any valuable items with them.

Parents are welcome to stay and wait in the viewing area, but only youth athletes may participate during instructional play.

  • What to wear and bring?

Children should dress in shorts and a t-shirt or top. Warm-up pants or additional layers are optional. Please ensure they have running shoes and a water bottle with them.

Participants are required to bring their own racket. However if for any reason you are unable to purchase a racket for your child, please inform your coach and they will make arrangements for your child to be provided a racket for use in class. Birdies are supplied.

  • What level of experience is required?

Children of all skill levels are invited to participate. Our programs emphasize fundamental skills such as serves, forehands, and overhead shots, along with strategies tailored for both singles and doubles matches.

Our programs are recreational and grassroots, offering an introduction to badminton while serving as a stepping stone to prepare your child for local community programs that provide intermediate and expert classes for more competitive gameplay.

  • Can parents / guardians observe classes?

Yes, parents are encouraged to stay and observe, space permitting. Please exercise caution in the sports gym while nets are being set up and during shuttlecock play. Access to the gym facilities and programs is limited to youth members only.

Parents are kindly requested not to comment or provide feedback while children are on the court to maintain a focused and supportive environment.
